Unsaid

My husband frequently writes love songs that evoke deep emotions, and I wanted to challenge myself to write what I called my own “bleeding heart song.”

Up until this point, I'd always written songs about something I had personally experienced or felt. This was the first time I deliberately sat down to write from an emotion that wasn't already living inside me. I wanted to see if I could create a story that would make someone feel something, even though it wasn't my own story.

The funny thing is, the first line came from a completely ordinary moment. My husband had been working in his studio all day, and I'd been in my office. Neither of us had seen much of the other. We happened to walk into the hallway at exactly the same time, and I realized how much I'd missed him.

I looked at him and said, “I don't wanna miss you no more.”

We both knew immediately that was the beginning of a song.

From that one line, I imagined a relationship where two people had drifted apart and one was desperate to find a way back. All the things they wished they'd said, the moments they wished they could change, and the fear that it might already be too late.

That's how “Unsaid” came to life. A fictional heartbreak that started with a very real moment in our hallway.
