“Not Even Close” was a title someone gave me as a songwriting challenge. I'll admit, I struggled with it. I don't particularly like writing songs that start with negative words like no, not, neither, or never. I always feel like I'm starting out on the wrong foot!
It took me a while to figure out how to take a title that sounded so negative and turn it into something positive.
I started thinking about the times in my life when God felt so close, and other times when He seemed a million miles away. How easy it is to let our circumstances cloud our view of His love.
That's when the title finally clicked. No matter how much I believe God loves me, I can't begin to comprehend the depth of that love. Whatever I imagine it to be, I'm not even close.
And just like that, the negative became the most positive part of the song.
